Creating a Great Main Character

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Monticello Library

Description

What does it take to create an interesting main character? How can we create characters our readers connect with? During this lecture, author L.C. Mortimer will walk attendees through the steps she takes each time she's ready to create a new character to ensure that her characters are unique. Discussion topics will include doing character research, naming the characters, describing the characters and how to create dynamic backstories for each character in the story. She'll also explore why it’s more interesting to create a character named Alex who plays Roblox between visits to a fairy world than it is to read about a character named Max who doesn’t have any interests or personality beyond being the main character.
