The Past Is Prologue: Mapping Inequality

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Description

Explore the lasting impact of redlining and urban renewal. In the early 20th century, federal and state policies restricted financial resources to African Americans for housing. Known as redlining, it was followed by another historically discriminatory practice 20 years later — urban renewal. These programs segregated and changed communities across the nation. This presentation will explore their history and the lingering effects on today’s communities. Presented by Donna Rae Pearson, museum curator at the Kansas Historical Society.

This program will be hosted on Zoom. A Johnson County Library staff member will email registrants the day before with access instructions. No software download or account is required.
