Very well written prose, and I enjoyed the changing in perspectives across time as the mystery is pieced together. However, I found the first hundred pages hard to get into as I just didn't personally find the characters that were set…
Slow-building tension and an atmospheric, gothic feel make this book a great choice for anyone. This book weaves themes of love, art, hope, and loss in a way that is truly engaging. This is an entertaining read, for sure.

I enjoyed the mystery, the various time periods, and the non-scary ghost story, but there were too many characters with back stories. It made the whole seem cluttered.

Just finished Margaret Butler's "AfterDeath" and was looking for another author whose prose took me back to the Victorian era and included the supernatural. This book was an excellent choice. Great read!

A richly woven tale of art, romance, passion, loss, and mystery. I enjoyed its suspenseful and supernatural atmosphere.

I probably would have dropped this early on if I was reading it on my own, but I persevered because it was for book club, and the 2nd half was a lot better than the first.
The characters were all pretty interesting; my favourite was…

I would have abandoned this book about 100 pages in, except that I was reading it for a book club. I just couldn't force myself to read it, so I got the audiobook. Then I ended up thoroughly enjoying it! It is a long, complex, interwoven…

I agree with previous comments that it was difficult to follow who the characters were, what time period they were in and how the story all tied together. The second half of the book is better, although I was disappointed with the ending…

I do enjoy Kate Morton's books. She spins stories from by gone eras that entertwine with the present day. This ghost story of a hot summer in the mid nineteenth century that goes badly wrong does jump around a bit before coming to its…

I always enjoy Morton's novels, and this ambitious one was no exception! Birchwood Manor links all of the narrative threads together, a touchstone within this gorgeous novel that feels like coming home. From Elodie’s inquisitive nature to…

I haven't read this author before. I did like the book but I agree with many of the comments (in the Savy Reader group that I am in on FB that it was confusing.) I have read many books that jump around but I found with this one I would be…

I've read all Kate Morton's books and was certain that this one would be just as good. What a disappointment! There are too many characters and too much jumping back and forth to follow the story in a meaningful way. I persisted,…

W O W! - I was so looking forward to Kate Morton's new release. Started slow and confusing. I couldn't wait to read the reviews of this book - hoping it wasn't just me who couldn't follow the confusing time lines, back-and-forth of…

Usually Kate's books have a formula that flips between two perspectives but this one had several perspectives so it was confusing at the beginning to keep track of which time period we were in. The narrative was very retrospective which…
