Like the man himself, the film bites off more than it seemingly can chew. The balance between depicting Howard Hughes as a reckless business magnate, a driven technician, a victim of severe mental illnesses, a complex political figure, a…

Great acting, interesting topic. Almost 3 hours long. Too long. And slow. Watched the whole movie as we'd had a busy day and were too tired and relaxed to turn it off.

First off, the movie begins in a simulation of the old two-strip Cinecolor process, which had red and blue colors but lacked green. You'll notice the grass is blue, or a kind of teal color, and when Hughes is served a steak with peas, the…

A semi-factual take on the adult active life of the notorious Hughes. His talents and eccentricities were many, as were his accomplishments. The film has some noticeable interior design which is even explicitly remarked upon by the…

Directed by Martin Scorsese in 2004 based on the 1993 non-fiction book "Howard Hughes: The Secret Life" by Charles Higham, this American docudrama depicts the life of Howard Hughes between 1927 and 1947, during which time Hughes became a…

2003 A solid 3 hr. movie about Howard Hughes early life, the people he used & his rich lifestyle BEFORE he actually became increasing paranoid. He was demanding, cynical and juvenile in most ways because of his wealth. He wanted to be a…

Bravo! Wow, wow, wow. If you enjoy biopics, history, Old Hollywood, or aviation this is a stellar film that runs on all cylinders. I am somewhat critical of films in general, but I frankly can't think of any room for improvement with…

A long and very interesting movie. Howard Hughes became more eccentric as he got older. He became bolder with his thinking and aircraft design. I think I would like to watch this movie again sometime. The second disk is very interesting…

A middling good portrayal of the life of Howard Hughes up until shortly after WWII. A man with a truly exceptional life

Like any biography, it is hard to make it fit a theme. The different sections of his life make the story disjointed, despite attempts to connect things (and some great acting jobs). The lack of backstory (aside from the odd repeated scene…

The first 45 minutes were indescribably boring. I continued watching it only because Leonardo DiCaprio was, as always, great. I did not like the story, there was no plot, no explanation who the main character was, and why he acted so…

Hollywood drivel. Hammy overacting. I shut it off after 15 minutes.

Long...long...long film. Hughes was a brilliant, eccentric visionary. I learned a lot about the man. Cate Blanchett was fantastic as Katharine Hepburn, and deserved her Oscar.

Portrays Hughes sympathetically and highlights his contributions to aviation and Hollywood. An interesting, well-made film.

Not the worst movie it just ran a little long for my taste. Worth checking out.

This was a good movie; however, I found it quite slow at times, very detailed and a tad long. I would have liked more attention paid to Hughes' descent into his obsessive compulsive behaviours and how he worked to control the…

Must See - Aviator (2004) 170 min. directed by Martin Scorcese and stars Leonardo DiCarprio and Cate Blanchett. This the biopic of Howard Hughes and his relationship with Katherine Hepburn (played beautifully by Cate Blanchett). The film…

A slow start and a little too long for me. Story of Howard Hughs became more interesting when his obsessive compulsive urges became stronger and how he tried to control it. I learned a lot about Howard Hughes from this film. He was a…
