Having read only "Coma" before, I cannot say if this is one of the better Robin Cook novels. But if you are into medical thrillers, it is a very pleasant, fast-paced read. Dr. Cook is at his best in the hospital scenes - he knows what he is writing about. He is not so good when he switches the point of view from the main character: these scenes could have easily been left out. It is interesting to read about a time with paper patient charts (dutifully pulled out by "secretaries") and pagers ("beepers"), although computers crop up. But the novel brings up interesting issues about genetic research and a few others (which cannot be revealed without a spoiler).
