Felt the comic is a little more "on the nose" than I expected. Fun read, great artwork. I also went into this comic expecting a fresh start I guess. With it being "Vol. 1" I was a little lost... but with a short search I got a basic understanding of what was going on. STILL A FUN READ!

This story follows up on Lex Luthor's involvement in Blackest Night as he searches for a way to harness the energy of a black power ring of death.

A good first volume. For a period of time, Action Comics was occupied by Lex Luthor as the protagonist. While he certainly doesn't shift into heroic mode- this story starts out with him having a man killed- placing him front and center as a protagonist is a curiousity. The writer Paul Cornell is highly skilled at fleshing out characterization and respecting history, and the story, which has Luthor mixing it up with various denizens of the DC universe, is well done. The action takes place after Blackest Night, in which Luthor briefly tasted real power, and the plot follows him as he seeks to regain it. And having an unusual substitute for Lois Lane at his side helps move things along.
