The stage is set in 1970s Glasgow. On the brink of adolescence, John is a bright and sensitive boy, eager to learn and full of promises. But the cards are stacked against him. Most of the adults in his life fail him in one way or another. His father, drunken, violent bully and his teachers, punishing him for the sins of his older brothers. John takes to the savage life of the streets with a vengeance. It is not only a story of lost hope, it is a story of survival by any means necessary.

I tend to agree with voisjoe1. Although this is subtitled & understand most most Glaswegians, this one blew past me & I got sooo tired of hearing f. this, f.that, etc. Sad story hard to take. I must have grown up in a very sheltered, mild community.... city thugs from poverty & NEDs.

1970's Scotland. An intelligent primary school student in a brutal society finds survival requires that he become like the remainder of society. The movie starts out as black humor, but half way through there is this strange eerie keyboard music suggesting the fun is over. The remainder is a little like a descent into hell. Warning! Brutal and crude throughout the second half. Sorta' like Taxi Driver.
