Enjoyed this YA novel, my first by David Weber. Environmental consciousness theme runs throughout, and the creation of treecats, sentient alien animals/beings who possess telepathic abilities is unique hook for this story. This angle deserved more exploration, but perhaps that's reserved for a "next in the series"...

A story that shows humans, even in the future, have never learned that the environment and all forms of life that live in it need to be protected, not exploited. A good story of how a few people can make a difference.

This is an upbeat remake of H.Beam Piper's "Little Fuzzy" books from the time of most of this book's readers' great grandparents. A fun read on a basic level and it is good to see David Weber stretching his talents to reach a new market. For something deeper than "good guys are better than bad guys" (not gender specific) you will need to see some of Weber's adult fiction though.

Terrifc book; intelligent, civilized, celery eating tree cats and genetically adapted heavy gravity humans. Great vision! Working on the rest of the Honor series too.
