Jim Meeker came down from Montana to run Texas cattle only to find that Hopalong Cassidy's Bar-20 ran the water. When a trio of snake-mean rustlers started themselves a cattle war, the powder was primed, and the guns were cocked. It's friend against friend, brother against brother, and gun against blazing gun. All hell has broken loose and Hopalong Cassidy is smack in the middle of it all. Hoppy and the Bar-20 crew must stop a range war before the range runs red with blood.

The pages drip with action. The good guys are super good, and the bad guys are mighty bad. Swift, fast-paced old-timey prose that may appear cliché today but is in fact a progenitor of much of what passes for today’s hero films. Diction spelling “yo’re shore to git a-goin’” is both charming and dated. Hopalong made it big in movies. I can see why; there’s no wasted motion here.
