12-year-old Ember lives in a trailer park with her family until their trailer is burnt down leaving them homeless and at the mercy of do-gooders who look down on the family because they are Wiccans and cast spells instead of praying. Though the family had very little before, now they have nothing and must move to a campground with only tents, no electricity, no vehicle and no jobs for Ember’s parents. This is a story of a girl who is afraid to make friends and is afraid to let go of her desire for revenge. This book is a lesson for those of us who feel we should have “more” as we see how little this family has left. Reviewed by BPL volunteer EE.
