Add a CommentThis was a very enjoyable read. Terry Pratchett will most definitely reevaluate everything that you know about elves from books. Turns out that they are not such nice creatures! I would recommend this book to anyone who loved fairy tales when they were younger and now want a more a grown up version.
The Kingdom of Lancre is preparing for the wedding of King Verence to local witch Magrat Garlick. She’s not so sure, but ends up at the castle, regretfully leaving her witching life behind. But she is bored. Meanwhile, the elves, sung about in many folk songs, are trying a takedown in Lancre. Except for Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg, everyone else thinks they are just featured in the stories. It takes her awhile, but don’t count out Magrat. The inclusion of bees in the story is certainly current for our time.
Fun like most Discworld books, but I kinda hate when plot events happen/don't happen because friends won't talk to each other/keep secrets/etc....it's dumb
I love stories about fae that throw glamour in your face and invite you to dance in the fairy rings--even though you'll never leave again. There's just so much in this book to adore. The sharp wit of the prose. The fun characters. The forest with all its twisted roots and steep mountains. The chase through Lancre castle is terrifying, the Morris Men dance is hilarious, and the comedy is, as always, top notch.
Really enjoyed this, I think its the best one so far in my Discworld journey.
Terry Pratchett's best novel.
