The story of a successful Hollywood director, Tom Shadyac, who experienced a life-threatening head injury, and his ensuing journey to try and answer two very basic questions: 'What's wrong with the world?' and 'What can be done about it?' With a film crew of four, Tom visits some of today's great minds, including authors, poets, teachers, religious leaders, and scientists, searching for the fundamental endemic problem that causes all the other problems, while reflecting on his own life choices.

Starts well, then takes a sharp turn towards uncritical metaphysical understanding, otherwise known as unscientific, age of aquarius ideology. If you like "What the Bleep Do We Know?"... this film may not bother you in the least. The digression from the original thesis based on two questions: 'What's wrong with the world?' and 'What can be done about it?'... into the field of unverifiable speculation becomes a film whitewashed by its own lack of focus and understanding. The tenet of compassion in market economics is worth examining, but who this film is preaching to is the choir and not the 1% of wealthy persons around the world. Films like this are what is wrong with the world and to cease and desist production of such media is what can be done about it. Of course, I jest. Watch it and decide for yourself. Peace.

Film maker for many high grossing comedy films, Tom Shadyac tackles questions on the serious side of life. It would be easy to dismiss an individual that "had it all" in terms of Hollywood success as someone who couldn't ever really know what it is like to "not have enough" in life, to live in this world. But through his way of communicating in this film, bringing in science behind happiness and humanity, using humor and asking the right questions of significant world figures respected for their insight into the human condition, Shadyac succeeds in gaining a foothold with those asking the "what is life about" question. And from that foothold he launches a new direction for his career and life, bringing a message of love and hope and inspiration to as many people as possible.

Don't listen to anyone who talks bad about this documentary. The director went through a life changing experience in which he almost died. This movie is about someone who has experienced all the riches that Hollywood has to offer, yet gives it all up in search for the truth. This movie speaks about love, compassion and cooperation. If you like this movie, you'll like his book "Lifes Operating Manual" which has a lot of good information in it.

Sort of a namby-pamby feel-good woo-woo movie about how a privileged poor-little-rich boy came to "question it all". ••• Some great interview quotes from some of our most astute intellectuals & spiritual leaders. But they are just that: Quotes. Nothing seems developed fully. ••• It's all in service of the privileged poor-little-rich-boy who "see's the light" story. It's still a "ME" story. None of it moves towards people helping other people.
