It's a Cinderella's fabled footwear for this dance-and-fantasy-infused retelling of the fairy tale. She moves from sooty drudge to radiant belle of the ball with pluck, resourcefulness and the aid of a loopy fairy godmother.

GREAT 1955 film loosely based on Cinderella story, starring age 24 Leslie Caron and produced by the same team that had just previously created Leslie's terrific 'Lili' movie - also highly recommended - and another example of filmed live theatre.
I didn't/couldn't remember any versions of the Cinderella story, so this was an 'open book' experience for me where I just took it in as it unfolded (and wasn't spending any time making any comparisons to other versions).
Ms. Caron (now one of my favorite dancer/players) occasionally uses a rather odd, somewhat British sounding accent in her speaking lines - which caught my ear.
Estelle Winwood was terrific as fairy godmother Mrs. Toquet. I particularly enjoyed her comment about women's shoes having heels - and men's not - they couldn't 'handle' it.
Fun seeing all those elaborate hoop dresses, too - times, change...

"The Glass Slipper" is a magical movie. It is both a fantasy, a ballet, a musical and a real life story. It is all blended into one of the most beautifully filmed movies I have ever seen. Each frame is like a painter pallet. I could watch the ballet portions over and over again. Leslie Caron lights up the screen. She will capture your heart and mind. My words are insufficient to describe such a spectacle as "The Glass Slipper". I think it is a movie that every man, woman and child could thoroughly enjoy!
P.S. Can you identify the narrator? He is not listed in the credits. It took me a while to put the voice with an actor. You may get it right away!
