Using this book mainly to learn some basic phrases and sentences. Also to learn the alphabet.

This book definitely did both for me. But I don't think it could get you to any farther than a basic conversational level in Russian. Especially since Russian is an EXTREMELY hard language to learn. Do NOT try to learn this as a second language, unless you already know a similar language.
