Fun little adventure that made me chuckle throughout.

This hilarious read aloud offers plenty of fodder for those adventurous in creating individual voices for each character, as well as entertainment for all ages (truly). Added by JCLAmyF.

The book's unnamed Dad tells the most inventive story ever rather than admit he dallied while running out to get milk for his children's breakfast cereal. It's the type of random, convoluted, logic-defying yarn only a child is imaginative enough to invent, and it's excellently, amusingly right up... Read More »

Very funny tale told by a dad to his kids to explain what took soooooo loooong getting a single pint of milk from the store for their cereal. Would make a great read aloud bedtime story.

Great little read! A father needs to go and get milk and is gone for a long time. The tale he tells his children to explain is absence is quite long winded and slightly a sci-fi. Even better as the children are having a hard time believing him. Fun read!

A brief children’s comic novel by the multi-award winning Gaiman. This is essentially a science fiction version of a tall tale. Children tell their father they are out of milk so he goes to the store. It’s a long time before he returns, and he spins them a long tale about how he met a time-traveling dinosaur inventor and saved the world. Clever and twisty, but slighter than most of Gaiman’s novels.

Unfortunately, rather disappointing. I was all set to love this as I think Neil Gaiman writes so well for kids and for adults who love Kid's fiction. This book got bogged down with complex, uninteresting detail. I was hoping to preview it, and one day have the pleasure of sharing it with a child who loves fantasy as it was short and it was by Gaiman who is so usually imaginative. It was not of the caliber of Corraline and the Graveyard book, not close. The drawings were excellent, but that wasnt good enough as this was a novella and not just a picture book.

Not my 'cup of milk', but an interesting adventure for kids -- very whimsical. If you're looking for a light-hearted tale, this pick is a good one. This book contains many examples of onomatopoeia as well as fantastical illustrations.

Be prepared for a wild ride when you listen to this book. The kids need milk for their breakfast cereal and Dad is going to buy some from the corner store and bring it home, no matter what obstacles get in the way. Neil Gaiman is a great reader.

Nothing at all in this book makes sense to me, but what if this life-changing journey is real? Try to wrap your head around a dinosaur whose expertise is Science, a hot air balloon, pirates, several wormholes, one mom's list of things not to do while she's away, two witty little kids, and one clever dad on his journey to get some milk. Gaiman pieces all those and many more in a lovely, enjoyable blend of fiction.

I said good-bye to all the dinosaurs. I thanked Professor Steg for saving my life. "Not at all," she said. "We were both fortunate that you had the milk with you. It is not every container of milk that saves the world, after all." "That was me that saved the world, " I said, "Not the milk." The space dinosaurs all had their picture taken holding the milk and smiling at the camera. "What are you going to do with the milk?" they asked me, "Are you going to put it in a museum?" "No, I am not," I told them. "I am going to give it to my children for their breakfast cereal. and possibly I will pour some in my tea." - See more at: http://jocolibrary.bibliocommons.com/item/show/1267245036_fortunately,_the_milk#sthash.C5hLd5oV.dpuf
