Elizabeth and Jackson Shore married young, raised two daughters, and weathered the storms of youth as they built a family. From a distance, their lives look picture perfect. But after the girls leave home, Jack and Elizabeth quietly drift apart. When Jack accepts a wonderful new job, Elizabeth puts her own needs aside to follow him across the country. Then tragedy turns Elizabeth's world upside down. In the aftermath, she questions everything about her life--her choices, her marriage, even her long-forgotten dreams. In a daring move that shocks her husband, friends, and daughters, she lets go of the woman she has become--and reaches out for the woman she wants to be.

Distant Shores was interesting enough to keep me reading it, but in my opinion is not one of Kristin Hannah's best books. I have read at least 10 or 12 of her books and have enjoyed all of them. This one was ok.

The thing I love most about this book is that it takes place in one of my favorite places in the world, Cannon Beach, Oregon. I'm grateful that Kristin Hannah lives in the Pacific Northwest because her descriptions of Cannon Beach are absolutely perfect. I could sympathize with the main character, Elizabeth, not wanting to follow her husband Jack across the country when he gets a great opportunity. However, even after multiple readings, I wish this book had ended differently. It's a wonderful read and the ending is the only one that is really 'appropriate'. If that doesn't make sense, it will by the time you read this book.

Kristen Hannah is a great writer, but this book didn't catch me up as much as most of her others. I do love the Oregon coast setting.

This was my first Kristin Hannah book and I really enjoyed it. The plot was interesting and an easy read. It flowed well and defnitely a good summer read.

Not my favourite of Kristin Hannah's books. I gave it 3 stars as the characters were realistic and the flow of the story was good but I just found the book to be a bit boring. If you are a fan of Kristin Hannah's books then it's still worth the read. Winter Garden is still my favourite.
