This novel is part of the trilogy from "The False Prince". This is book #2 of the trilogy. I suggest you read them in order because the story line goes in order. This book was really thrilling to read because ever since Sage became Prince Jaron, he has a lot of enemies and problems to deal with.

This trilogy is the best!!! Jaron is really hilarious and brilliant!

This second part of the trilogy shows Jaron is up to his old tricks. He is fearless, stubborn and determined to save Carthya his own way. Meanwhile it seems as if every plan he has is misunderstood and sabotaged at every turn.

The action moves quickly and there are more than a few twists and turns. It was an enjoyable ride and we see progress with a cliffhanger at the end to beckon us on to the third book.

I've read the first book of the trilogy, "The False Prince" in about a 2 weeks. The book was too good for me to stop, so I'm going to order the second one now, hope it'll be amazing too!

Jennifer A. Nielsen has really good books. Mark Of the Thief is my favorite book she has made.

A very good book. The author makes scenes so exciting! I love the sword fights especially. All the charterers seem to come alive. love this series and the author's style of writing. All in all a fabulous book! Leaves you wanting to read the next book. In fact, after I am done rating this I am going to order the next book, " The Shadow Throne".

Honestly probably some of my fave books ever! The Ascendance trilogy is the BEST!!!!!

Even better than I expected!! I never thought Jen could top the False Prince, but in a talent similar to J.K. Rowling, she provided an excellent book that moved the plot forward, while setting the stage for the third and final book in the trilogy, The Shadow Throne. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone (and would invest a lot of time in convincing everybody). But please, do NOT read this book before its predecessor, the False Prince. Not only would you be confused about a lot of crucial things, but it would spoil key information that is one of the biggest parts of the first book. Again, this book is truly worthy of five stars, and is one of the best books, if not THE best book I've ever read.

you're incorrigible." he said.
"More than you know.Shall we go?"
"I think I may grow to hate you before this is over."
"But you don't already, and that's got to be some sort of record."
"It would help if you used words like 'please' and 'thank you'."
"then I'll 'thank you' to 'please' stay out of my business."
"You just need more discipline and a great deal of practice."
"the practice I can do, but nobody's ever been much good at disciplining me."

"May your talent for spontaneous tantrums earn you great glory and honer."
"I'll do whatever it takes to keep my head from rolling. And I'll try not to do anything that will cause them to detach yours."
"The pirates have a code about women and children, they don't touch them, not if there innocents.."
"Maybe the code will protect me," I said."Do I still count as a child?"
Eric tilted his head."You don't count as an innocent."

you've got a rat behind you."I muttered to Eric.
Fink shook his head."No, my pet's in her cage."
"I wasn't talking about your pet."
..knife at my throat."you don't want to do this."
His lip curled."yes I do."
"Fair enough.but it'd be a mistake."
"Plague wounds."
"You're family now.."
"I have no family."And if I did they wouldn't be thieves.
"...I'm supposed to watch you."
"I thought I was family."
Fink shrugged."Eric just wants to make sure you're not the kind of family that runs when we're not looking."

"Forgive me, but the king's order is the most reckless thing he's ever said, which we both know is quite an accomplishment."
"..The question will be what does the king want for dinner. The answer is that you know what the king wants and it has nothing to do with dinner."
Tobias smiled, despite himself."What does the king want, then?"
"He wants you to hush and pay attention.."
"Oh,I see you don't want me around."
"That's it?"
"You think someone like me is gonna have more than one name?"
Eric smiled."I'm surprised anyone even bothered to give you a name at all."
My expression mirrored his."They didn't.I gave myself this name."

violet_zebra_407 Apr 12, 2016

"I took that for Sage, not Jaron."
"..I demand an answer."
"Or else what?" I grinned and folded my arms."I can beat you in a sword fight, and we all know what'll happen if you lock me in my room."
"Nothing so complicated as that."Mott also folded his arms."I'll simply decide not to like you anymore."
My smile widened. "That's a serious threat."
"It gets worse. I'll call you only by your title and quietly roll my eyes when you give me orders, and i won't make it fun for you to insult me ever again."
"Well, we can't have that."

violet_zebra_407 Apr 12, 2016

"Jaron, do you support this plan?"
I rapped my fingers on the armrest."No."
which part do you object to?"Gregor asked.
"The part where you began speaking."
"I thought a little sleep would change your mind."
"I had the same concern, so I kept myself awake."
"We have to talk."
"Go ahead,"I said, slouching in my seat. "But do it quietly so I can sleep."

violet_zebra_407 Apr 11, 2016

"..I had hoped that becoming royal would cure your foul manners."
"That's interesting. My father hoped that stripping me of royalty would do the same thing."
"....should be beheaded. So, which of you is that?"......suddenly became fascinated with the folds of their clothes.either that or they were avoiding looking at me.

violet_zebra_407 Apr 09, 2016

"You're such a young king I can barely remember being your age!"
"Then clearly we're talking about how old you are, not how young I am."
"You shouldn't scold him when he was only using your proper title."
"If its my proper title, you shouldn't scold me at all,"
