A high energy series staring ex-cop, Kara. She is strong, sarcastic, and funny and loves her family and friends. Kara has stayed in the demon realm for months, and her training there gives her the means to defend herself and allies when she returns home, accompanied by her demigod lover/teacher. She and her mentor stand in battle together against impending chaos, and he is wounded greatly altering his personality and relationship with Kara. I became frustrated with Kara a few times. For all the time that she's been spending with demon's lately she still doesn't seem to have an understanding of how tightly agreements can bind them, regardless of how much they'd prefer it was otherwise (Zach) She also missed a fairly major thing that I assume is going to carry most of the plot of the next book. Overall a good read, writing just flows and I found it hard to put the book down until it was finished. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

No matter how fantastical the realm or story context, it's flat with such a disappointingly pedestrian protagonist. And that's not even to do with her propensity for over-using words like "super" and "cool".I'm at a loss to understand why a demon lord would choose her as mate.
