Lace knitting gets a makeover in 'Lovely Knitted Lace'! Author Brooke Nico offers up 16 garments and accessories based on four basic shapes: triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles. Start with these simple shapes, then create a light-as-air Angle Shawl knit from the center out; a luxuriously soft Japanese Leaf Scarf that looks pretty on both sides of the fabric thanks to stockinette and twisted rib stitches; a pretty Aster Shirt with great drape and flow; and an ethereal Flutter Shawl featuring an Estonian variation of a leaf motif. Brooke also shares her thought on yarn, gauge, charts, techniques, and fixing mistakes in lace knitting, and includes six additional motifs for you to play with and explore.

Maybe I was too tired, but I found the instructions in this book to be difficult to parse out compared to others I have read. So I didn't even bother trying any of the patterns as they are described here. Definitely for the more advanced crowd, or those with the patience of a saint to move through the odd charting of each of these. Each piece has several charts attached to it, you might just be better off borrowing a Treasury book from Barbara Walker and piecing together your own bit of fun (I love her stuff). As a point of reference, I would place my knitting experience at intermediary level, and I love nothing better than to piece together patterns and make an original piece. But this book's instructions gave me a headache.
