On a hot summer day in 1892 in Fall River, Massachusetts, Lizzie Borden returns home to the house she shares with her father Andrew, stepmother Abby and sister Emma. She encounters the bloody scene of her parents violently murdered. Evidence keeps pointing back to Lizzie, the seemingly wholesome Sunday school teacher, as the prime suspect. Lizzie's lawyer, Andrew Jennings, proclaims her innocence arguing that it is inconceivable a woman could brutally murder her family with an ax. Or is it?

Still unsolved to this day, the Borden Murders continue to fascinate and historians still cannot agree to this day who the murderer was. This movie is pretty good, and covers almost all of the facts of the case, but with its quick flashbacks that may or may not be true, a viewer not familiar with the details of the case might get confused. As the poster below said, Wikipedia has a pretty good summary of the case, so a viewer might want to glance over that first.

Needs more in depth details on the significance of the scenes ... wikipedia has a nice summary of the historic murder trial and references.

Its more of a made for TV movie, but still better then expected.

Children singing rhyme while skipping rope:

Lizzie Borden took an ax
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.
