These two renowned writers have invented a world not unlike our own--a world on the edge of chaos, torn between the madness of religious fanaticism and the stubborn denial of scientists. Only a handful of people on the planet Lagash are prepared to face the truth--that their six suns are setting all at once for the first time in 2,000 years, signaling the end of civilization! What could be better than a book written by these two amazing authors?!! This is what I thought when I heard about this book and expected it to be great! I love science fiction that takes the unbelievable and makes it believable. For example, so much of what happens in Lord of the Rings is unbelievable but the Tolkien has set up cultures, setting, magic systems, and more to make everything work so the the reader can sit back, enjoy, and easily buy into the story. These authors usually do the same in their other books. Not so in this book. I just could not buy what they were selling. And I walked in wanting to buy. The cause of the madness that occurs in this book made no sense for a world with 6 suns. None. This surprised me coming from Asimov who I believe was a scientist himself. I have not read the original story. I like the beginning with the battle between science versus religion. Cool idea of a world that never experiences night and how that may impact a people psychologically and culturally as far as their fear of the dark. That part was interesting.

Sorry Isaac, but this book did for me what a sleeping pill might have done for them.

A fantastic story. The depth with which Asimov and Silverberg have explored characters reactions gives the reader such a strong feeling of characterization.

The idea is creative to begin with, but the exploration of the emotional aspects makes this more than just another sci-fi book. It is a look at emotions, religion, science, and how they interact in the presence of what appears to be a cataclysmic event.

This is a sci-fi classic. Probably the best science fiction book you could ever read. The begining starts out slow but it gets a lot better. Isaac Asimov is an author you could explore a lot more with
