From Library Staff

Dungeons & Dragons allowed kids and teens to switch from reading about quests or watching them unfold on the screen to creating those adventures, together, in their own imaginations, opening up entire worlds. Also, no one can resist rolling a 20-sided die.

This is a core rulebook for anyone who wants to play D&D. It helps you create a character, with options for fantasy races (ex.- dwarf, elf, halfling), classes (ex.- wizard, fighter, bard), backgrounds (ex.- folk hero, sailor), spells (magic missile, charm person, vicious mockery), equipment, and more. Plus all the info you need to start adventuring.

5e is the newest edition and in my opinion one of the best sets of rules. It's found a good balance of accessibility and depth. Some things have been streamlined, which means you spend more time playing and telling stories and less time adding and subtracting and trying to remember whether or not you factored in a modifier. Hours of creative fun await!

The rules and basics of getting started playing the popular tabletop role playing game. Fans of old school Dungeons and Dragons may find the fifth edition of the game a homecoming, and newcomers may appreciate the simplified mathematical rules and increased focus on collaborative storytelling.

So far the best player's handbook released by WotC.
The only con is that it doesn't have magic items, which I should be used to now I guess, as the 4th edition one did.

Ready for some adventure? D&D 5th edition delivers endless hours of entertainment, no wifi required. If you've never played roleplaying games before, this is a great place to start. I've been playing D&D since 3rd edition and this is by far the best rule set yet. It has enough options to make character creation fun for those who like to tinker, but 5th edition has streamlined a few rules to make it easier to wing it when you want to.

Also, can I just say that this book is gorgeous? The art is incredible, and as a GM I deeply appreciate a good index.

If you're new to D&D, you'll need a few books to start. Be sure to pick up the Player's Handbook, the Dungeon Master's Guide, and the Monster Manual before your first session.

Fantastic RPG and great book. Great art. Great lore.

5th edition D&D is a great game, but I'm not sure it really deserves the hallowed title of Dungeons & Dragons. I mean, what is with these new rules? Every class advances on the same XP chart? And you can switch between classes at whim, like a goblin on a three day bender? No percentile strength?! What have they done to my beloved game?

I'm a longtime RPG geek. I'm a big fan of 5th Edition D&D. It hits a good balance between depth and accessibility that makes it enjoyable for established players, but easy to teach to new ones. I also like how 5th Edition emphasizes collaborative storytelling, probably the most out of any D&D edition. The recommended reading at the end of the book is also excellent.

5th edition D&D might be the best edition. It is certainly my favorite. BUY THIS BOOK!
