3 stars: "It's kind of boring."

This is an excellent early chapter book. It has nice black and white illustrations on every page with a good, wholesome Little House on the Prairie type story. The story does a great job introducing children to how things were back in that time period in an interesting way. The recommended age is 5-9. My book-loving four year old and six year old boys (as well as myself) really enjoyed me reading it to them. The one problem I had with the book is main character using the word dumb regarding himself after the mistake he makes. Overall excellent book!
