I have to share the enthusiasm of my fellow "critics" on the quality of Dr. McGonigal's book. It is quite excellent and I learned much about stress that is useful. I'm already an accomplished mindset user, but I had not known how a conscious choice of mindset could transform a fight or flight response into a healthy challenge response or into a prosocial tend and befriend response. The ability to transform a potentially unhealthy response into a healthy and constructive response is a life saver. Dr. McGonigal does an excellent job of pulling together a lot of resources and making them accessible with stories that bring the lessons alive. Dear reader, you could do much worse than invest time and energy in reading this book and working the exercises.

McGonigal marshalls a variety of scientific findings to show that embracing stress brings many advantages and that stress avoidance is not what it's made out to be. The book is well written and easy to follow. I've never read a self-help book as well documented and convincing as this one.
Good advice on changing your mindset about stress to a more positive one.
The book really drags though. I expected more exercises for improving your own mindset.
I read this book after seeing Kelly McGonigal's TED talk "Make Stress Your Friend". I recommend it to anyone who is concerned about how stressful events impact health and personal growth. The scientific research cited in the book gives us all good reason to think more positively and be patient through the challenges.
This book is so good and has changed my life. I always despised the "aha moment" phrase but I honestly had one with this book and it shook my core. I cried. I suffer from PTSD and had been afraid to live my life and this book showed me that I had given up my life for fear of being stressed. I have been able to take two serious recent stressful events and use them (death of mum and my beloved dog) as catalyst to change my life - instead of being paralyzed by fear. Helpful and easy to read.
The book will definitely change your attitude towards stress. Thanks to this book, my life is more stressful than ever, but I'm taking pride in my work. I've also been inspired to take on my more challenging life goals that I previously avoided because I had thought they would be too difficult.
