Fun intellectual movie, reminiscent of the English Dr. Who, with leass humor and more insight and introspection.

On thesurface, it is a dark comedy, very French (slow paced, focused on relationship and dialogue) which addresses many of lifes age old questions and topics such as love, sex, promiscuity, depression, dreams, waking, memories, death, time travel, scientific use of animals, art, music, indifference, and reincarnation.

A simple story of two depressed souls, in love, one dies, the other commits suicide.

The scientists recruit him for their time travel experiments, after his unsuccessful suicide. The story illudes to the notion of kharma, repeating the experience, stuck in a loop, when one commits suicide.

The time travel bubble can be viewed as many familiar portals, it often appears as vulvu, a uterus (the womb) , an onion (the onion peel of life) , the universe, and a brain, to name a few.

The memories and experiences are visited by us in use of flash back syle. We put together the pieces of his story, giving us insight to his emotions, his desires, regrets, hopes, pain, joys. A basic summary of his life, which felt meaningless without his partner.

The use of art in the background are very subtle and powerful insights into his mental state, and the questions the authors want us to ponder.

Five stars. Superficially appears simple, funny, silly, at deeper viewing it is timeless, elegant, and the infinite limitless subject matter is perfectly coverd.

Je n'aime pas! Je n'aime pas! At one point my friend said: "I feel like we're watching 'Plan 9 From Outer Space.'" This was supposed to be time travel, but it felt like an eternity. But what an interesting historical document of 1968.
