In the summer of 2012, Steve Jenkins was contacted by an old friend about adopting a micro piglet. Though he knew his partner Derek wouldn't be enthusiastic, he agreed to take the adorable little pig anyway, thinking he could care for her himself. Little did he know, that decision would change his and Derek's lives forever. It turned out there was nothing "micro" about Esther, and Steve and Derek had actually signed on to raise a full-sized commercial pig. Within three years, Tiny Esther grew to a whopping 600 pounds. After some real growing pains and a lot of pig-sized messes, it became clear that Esther needed much more space, so Steve and Derek made another life-changing decision: they bought a farm and opened the Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary, where they could care for Esther and other animals in need.

I absolutely loved this book, anyone who loves animals would. I read it in about an hour(much to my dismay). I was laughing out loud in some parts. As soon as I finished the book I looked up the website and the facebook page, the sanctuary is for real and growing and am anxious to follow it's activities, so glad I read this book.

This book was a very fun and enjoyable read. The author had a light and engaging tone which kept a very happy vibe throughout the book. There were a lot of humorous stories and the photos of Esther were absolutely adorable and heartwarming. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves pigs and funny stories.

There is MUCH humor in this story--I got it to read as I had seen a mini review of their 2nd book in a magazine. So, I was looking at it from a farmer's perspective...I had a 4-H Pig back in the 60s of the same breed. My sibs and I were fans of the Man From Uncle series and named our 4-H pigs after the main characters. Mine was named Alexander. I had a younger brother who would eventually become buddies with Alex, as we did not have a dog at that time. They would play together in one of the nearby pastures. One day several farmer neighbors were helping my dad put up hay and were stunned by the interaction of Alex and my then 3 or 4 yr old brother. At one point, after running back and forth, Alex laid down on the ground and my brother as well--putting his head against Alex's side. They were there for quite some time, resting.
I am waiting now to read their 2nd book...

Sweet true story of Derek and Steve and how one day they found themselves becoming surrogate parents for a tiny little pig -- a "mini-pig" or so they were told. But then Esther grew...and grew and their tiny little two bedroom home, already filled with several dogs and cats became even more crowded. I had heard bits and pieces about this family -- who live in Canada and apparently had thousands of people following their story on Facebook...but really enjoyed reading about their trials and tribulations and all the amazing things that can happen when a 650 pound pig lives inside the house. Funny, touching story and how it changed these two men.

This is a fantastic read. it is humorous, compassionate, and very engaging. Can you imagine getting what you think is a mini pig, who grows to be a maxi pig. The book is a celebration of taking on a challenge with love and commitment. Do yourself a favor - read this book!
