"When high school senior Henry Page meets Grace Town, he finally experiences the ups and downs of first love"--
Henry Page fancies himself a hopeless romantic, but the kind of love that he's been hoping for just hasn't been in the cards for him. He focuses on his grades, on getting into a semi-decent college and finally becoming editor of his school newspaper. Then Grace Town walks into his first period class on the third Tuesday of senior year and he knows everything's about to change. Grace walks with a cane, wears oversized boys' clothes, and rarely seems to shower. It's obvious there's something broken about Grace, but he wants to help her put the pieces back together again.

Henry was a pretty average high schooler who has never been in love, so he doesn’t have anything to compare to what he feels for Grace. His first impression of her wasn’t so great, just a broken girl that wears overly-sized men clothes. But when the two co-edit their school’s newspaper together, Henry’s interest in her skyrockets. But Grace sends mixed signals and doesn’t has a mysterious upbringing. When grief and love mix together, the outcome is unpredictable. Although I find that the author has an interesting writing style and Grace’s backstory had me hooked, by the end, I didn’t really enjoy this novel. The characters were not too developed, especially Grace, and I didn’t find that I particularly enjoyed the main pair, separately or together. The plot was pretty interesting but the ending, although realistic and quite the tearjerker, didn’t satisfy me. Rating:3/5

I'm not really sure how to rate this book. I admit, I liked it, but I can't really tell how much I liked it.

Our Chemical Hearts combines the two worst possible addends: love and grief. I found the love ugly, but by ugly, I don't mean it in a negative way. The relationship between our two main characters is incredibly moving and heart-wrenching. I just couldn't ignore it, despite the fact that some of Henry's thoughts were rather disquieting.

Romance is difficult to write well. There are so many emotions to be captured, but at the same time, you don't want to spend too much time on contemplation.

There are several portions that make you think. A lot. It's pretty deep and metaphorical at times, and I was a total fan of that. BUT sometimes it becomes over-the-top and kinda desperate.

There is a perfect blend of humor in the story too, mainly involving Henry's friends and family.

I liked the fact that the school life in Our Chemical Hearts isn't too cliché. There aren't cliques, and everyone talks to everyone.

Something I'd potentially complain about is the number of references. There's an overload of them, and it made things difficult to keep up with at times. There's a political one, and I just didn't feel like it needed to be there.

For fans of complicated romance, this book is definitely for you. These two teens just want to work it out, but when you're carrying around a lot of baggage, it's difficult. You're left wondering if they are really even meant for one another after all. It's a roller coaster of emotion, and an inside look at how a teen might deal with grief after losing a loved one.

Young adult novel. Bittersweet. Unrequited love. I really enjoyed the characters, very believeable. Humour and sadness. A good read

Beautifully written coming of age story. A bit sad, as comings of age usually are.
