I'm still processing mother! - I wouldn't say it's good, but it is definitely interesting. The ending is pretty heavy on the Marian allegory, and I would love to sit in on a philosophy class unpacking this movie!

I am glad that I did not go to a theater to see this movie and did not buy my own copy. If I did, I would be very, very angry about the waste of my money and time, as the movie is a complete garbage. I borrowed a copy from the library, but I am still angry about the waste of time. I cannot believe that somebody invested his time and money in making it, and considering actors starring in the picture (Jennifer Lawrence, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Javier Bardem) it could not have been a cheap production. Total waste of time. Makes no sense what so ever. Absolutely unrealistic; almost every scene - could never happen in real life - still does not make it interesting. The only thing that went through my mind a thousand times was: "WTF?" Ridiculous and pathetic.

Saw it twice. U don't see the same film twice. Literally. Pfeiffer scared the s^%& out of me, in a wow-I-salute-u. Had a role in Ant-man 2. Wasn't quite so scared. If I remember right.

I absolutely hated this movie. The acting is fantastic, but the story is the most stupid, I've seen I a long time. It drags so often as well, just showing Jennifer doing the most inane things. Jeez, I'm mad at the writer for wasting my time. I should have stopped watching it halfway through, but I just didn't even consider the ending would be as stupid as it was.

This one was completely over the top and utterly unbelievable. Why is it the catalyst for most 'Hollywood Horror' films is always human stupidity, when there are so many other schemes that could set in motion a chain of unfortunate events?

I am an old (literally) movie lover and have seen thousands movies during my life. I gave this movie one half of a star because I could not indicate otherwise clearly enough that I would prefer to give it no stars. I am not a person who enjoys insulting or denigrate people but I have to say that those who gave this movie more than one half of a star should have their heads examined. I myself am ashamed of having finished watching it to the end but I was curious if my prediction of the end was correct. It was. Before that, I had several urges to vomit. Shame on those actors who star here. Where they so much money pressed that they felt compelled to prostitute themselves and accept these roles? That the movie made some money despite its dismal quality, and it has, shows how low has the taste of moviegoers sank. Total waste of time.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. Ever.

I think this is the equivalent of interpretive modern dance but on film. You can't take a literal interpretation of this movie. I think it is meant to be symbolic. Taking this movie literally is just interpreting it as one mess of a movie. I like all the actors in this movie but I think that it's extreme graphic symbolism was a little too ghoulish for some viewers. Be warned, do not watch with your kids!

Three-and-a-half stars for sheer writing and movie-making audacity!

Looking for realism? Look elsewhere. But if you're interested in a visually arresting take on the familiar theme of a wife/mother's submission to her husband's vaunted passion and acclaim, don't miss this!

Outlandish...outrageous...hilarious and unforgettable. Great--and very demanding--performance by Jennifer Lawrence in front the camera, and inspired creative work from Aronofsky behind the camera--truly one of today's most intriguing movie-makers.

Those who would prefer a more "literal" or realistic treatment of the theme, see Glenn Close in her seventh (!) Oscar nominated role as..."The Wife."

Those who like their movies over-the-top, see this one--and Aronofsky's earlier movie, Requiem For a Dream.

I was so into the deeper meaning of this movie. It was chaotic and left me reading more into each aspect.

Martin Scorsese on this film:

After I had a chance to see mother!, I was even more disturbed by this rush to judgment, and that's why I wanted to share my thoughts. People seemed to be out for blood, simply because the film couldn't be easily defined or interpreted or reduced to a two-word description. Is it a horror movie, or a dark comedy, or a biblical allegory, or a cautionary fable about moral and environmental devastation? Maybe a little of all of the above, but certainly not just any one of those neat categories.

Is it a picture that has to be explained? What about the experience of watching mother!? It was so tactile, so beautifully staged and acted — the subjective camera and the POV reverse angles, always in motion … the sound design, which comes at the viewer from around corners and leads you deeper and deeper into the nightmare … the unfolding of the story, which very gradually becomes more and more upsetting as the film goes forward. The horror, the dark comedy, the biblical elements, the cautionary fable — they're all there, but they're elements in the total experience, which engulfs the characters and the viewers along with them. Only a true, passionate filmmaker could have made this picture, which I'm still experiencing weeks after I saw it.
