Well written but not compelling story. Sort of all over depressing --with character set out to make him a 'worth while' person as he felt no one felt him a worth person, because his parents and then grandmother gave him up. How he was a 'failure' and all his attempts on his goal in the boxing arena --where he always make wrong/unwise decisions AND gave up the place and family that really showed his charactor and being a worth while person. He loved the family and the farm and the farm animals - to go off to boxing. Which he'd been totally whipped in a match locally before he left all behind. So - net/net disappointed after the Lean on Pete story which was sad, but not depressing.

Willy’s books keep getting better and better! I did not think he could top Lean On Pete, but his latest is another study of the fringe and vulnerable characters in society whose stories are usually left at the roadside.
