A unique anthology of all-new stories that challenges authors to throw down the gauntlet in an epic genre battle and demands an answer to the age-old question: Who is more awesome--robots or fairies?

Rampaging robots! Tricksy fairies! Facing off for the first time in an epic genre death match!

People love pitting two awesome things against each other. Robots vs. Fairies is an anthology that pitches genre against genre, science fiction against fantasy, through an epic battle of two icons.

On one side, robots continue to be the classic sci-fi phenomenon in literature and media, from Asimov to WALL-E , from Philip K. Dick to Terminator . On the other, fairies are the beloved icons and unquestionable rulers of fantastic fiction, from Tinkerbell to Tam Lin, from True Blood to Once Upon a Time . Both have proven to be infinitely fun, flexible, and challenging. But when you pit them against each other, which side will triumph as the greatest genre symbol of all time?

There can only be one...or can there?

Featuring an incredible line-up of authors including John Scalzi, Catherynne M. Valente, Ken Liu, Max Gladstone, Kat Howard, Jonathan Maberry, and many more, Robots vs. Fairies will take you on a glitterbombed journey of a techno-fantasy mash-up across genres.

Opinion

From Library Staff

"This compendium of 18 short stories pits robots against fairies to determine which are the supreme beings in the universe. The anthology uses clever wordplay and balances humor with tragedy, and the sinister with the silly."

Don't have to finish this to have an opinion. It's an anthology of sorts, as it is a collection of stories, but they seem to have all been written specifically for this series and it's a blast so far. Every story is followed by a short comment by the authors. Team Fairy vs Team Robot. Am loving it.

Enjoyed most of the stories, but Scalzi’ s contribution is worth checking out the whole book! It had me cracking up and reading sections aloud to my boys. Also liked the story in which a coder uses a Star Trek language (no, not Klingon).

A no holds barred throw-down between magic and technology. Authors supporting either side face off with stories demonstrating why their team is surely destined to rule the world. What's not to love?

I really enjoyed these short stories, more than I expected to. Who will take over the world: Robots or fairies? Some of the storieswere funny (one of my favorites was about robots speculating on what some human stuff was used for and made me laugh so much). Some were touching. Some were scary. One was set in a library (A fairy library!).

OMG it's like this book was written for me! Robots trying to figure out what humans did with sandwiches. Fairies protecting libraries of living books. It's all here! This is one of the best short story collections I've read in a long time. So much fun!
