A great one for the Harry Potter read-a-likes lists. Arlo discovers that he has some special magical gifts as the story unfolds. This is only the first book featuring Arlo and the Rangers. There are more adventures on the way.

Potentially an excellent read for younger fans of Harry Potter, this story weaves together magic and mystery at a camp in the Colorado mountains where Arlo and his scout friends discover there's magic lurking in the woods. Characters are very well developed and there are plenty of magical realism details (thunderclaps, snap lights, and supernatural creatures) to keep the pages turning. Sequel forthcoming.

The book overall was pretty good. The novel does a good job in combining the "real" world and fantasy together. What I like the most about the book is the character development, the author goes a lot into detail on what kind of person Arlo is, which makes him somewhat relatable. One thing the book could work on is pacing, there are some parts that just feel very slow and then suddenly very fast. -P.N.

Arlo Finch and his family have just moved to Pine Mountain, Colorado to start a new life. He joins the Rangers, a mountain scouting troop, where he learns important survival skills and soon finds out about the magical powers within their small town. As the mysteries unravel, Arlo and his newfound friends embark on a riveting and unforeseen adventure through Pine Mountain and the peculiar Long Woods.

The first few chapters were very encapsulating and set the story for the entire book nicely. As it progressed, the plot became more and more engrossing with each page. The storyline was very entertaining and developed well throughout the entirety of the book. I enjoyed reading about Arlo’s time in the Rangers and how he grew as a character as the book went on. I was thoroughly enthralled during the whole book and was eager to keep on reading about Arlos journey.

Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire was an easy and entertaining read that was overall very enjoyable. This was a wonderful tale of friendship, mystery and adventure. I am eager to read more about Arlo and the magical powers he discovers in Pine Mountain. - Shae-Lynn

I love this book. The author lives in Colorado and the book is based in Colorado. This is a combination of the natural world and dungeons and dragons.
