"A self-taught artist, Bingham painted life on the river and the politics of a tumultuous era in 19th century American history. His work was scattered after his death and rediscovered in the 1930s. Now celebrated as one of the greatest American artists, Bingham and his stunning body of work portray a story of perseverance, ingenuity and unwavering determination"--Container.

A fascinating documentary about a Missourian who was largely responsible for defining in art what the early West looked like (both the reality and the legend). I came for the art history but as a bonus, got a great lesson in mid 19th century Missouri history, complete with Jayhawkers! A must-see for anyone interested in Bingham the artist and in Missouri/Kansas history.
