Acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh proudly proclaims mobile filmmaking as the future of filmmaking. He backed up his talk by using an iPhone 7+ to film this psychological thriller. Equipped with mobile lenses, made by a company by the name of Moment, Soderbergh filmed with 18mm, 60mm, and a fis... Read More »

This is one of those horror stories that could actually be real, making it is much more scary! The Behavior Facilities are corrupt -- just like the corporations that are in charge. It is what happens when people are their source of commodity. Except, in this case, the Behavior Facilities are receiving funding from State Health care programs in the the form of insurance premiums. Why someone would sign up to pay for insurance premiums from a mental health institute? The mental conditions had to be fabricated to justify state expenditures. The whole thing is corrupt! It expands the population of the mentally ill to false level and places a burden on the tax payers for services that are not going to actually be required. It furthers the power and control by Corporations, Government and individuals who want to control and manipulate for their own personal gain. It creates a society that is worse by their actions in stead of benefiting the person it claims as the payee. there are demonic undertones to this film

I am still trying to get my bearings after watching this movie and feel guilty for watching this. As a man, this movie made me feel like how a woman feels like being stalked by a maniac who doesn't understand no, while at the same time, leading to a more disturbing social commentary about the past mass shootings and incel killings in Toronto that have occurred because a girl rejected somebody. There are allot of issues covered by this movie. Do not think people will take this movie very seriously as defining an "incel" compared to 40 year old virgin. The narrative is way over the top and unbelievable that it's just set-up to be a third act horror film with some social commentary thrown in to glue it together to mean something beyond torture porn.

Although the story is implausible at times, it's suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat for 90 minutes. Claire Foy is fantastic - what a completely different character from her role in The Crown - and Matt Damon has a brief, weird role that probably took him all of a half hour to prepare for.

Initially interesting, but eventually lost it due to unbelievable plot. Whoever was responsible for the sound track (computer techno-pop that sounds like it came out of a Game Boy) should be blacklisted.

It was interesting and
much better than I expected.
A little slow to start, but moves
along. Claire Foy was perfect
as the main character.

Finding out this was filmed on an iPhone after the fact led to one of those eye-opening/mind boggling realizations about how far technology has come. The nice thing is that even though Soderbergh is basically conducting an experiment, the end result is still a pretty compelling movie. After spending two years playing Queen Elizabeth on The Crown, Claire Foy really cuts loose as a woman involuntarily committed to a mental institution who may or may not actually belong there. The script is a little boilerplate, but Soderbergh and Foy (and the rest of the terrific cast) elevate this into a truly unsettling psychological thriller.

Low budget feel to this film directed by a well established director; the plot did pull me in and wondered what next for this "confused" individual who got herself in some bind. But at the end, the film became "one of those" genre flicks and kind of a let down.

First half - decent psychological thriller
Second half - slasher nonsense

Knew nothing about the film except the title going in and surprised with the topic and its horror nature... and seeing Matt Damon cameo in the film. An engaging psychodrama with reasonable premise and outstanding performance by Claire Foy.

Wow. This is some emotional thriller. Claire Foy (from The Crown) was incredible. She sounded 99.99% American...I didn't think she was such a great actress until now. I think if she gets the right parts, she'd be nominated and win an Academy award some day.

A little too much blood and graphic violence for my taste but it was a very, very good movie. It seems rather low budget but nothing tacky about it. Just a very good movie.

Telephone conversation near the beginning:

My job is to access and interpret data to produce analytical results. I did that job. Taking your frustration out on me will not alter the results. You're quite within your rights to take your business to another bank. Another analyst may interpret the data more to your liking. But they'd be doing a bad job.
Child-killers gets visits from women who see the good in them. Someone who loves a child-killer might be able to see some good in you. Because no one else fucking could.

-No. The counselor said the forms were routine.
You signed it.
You say all the right things, David. Or what you think are the right things. Greeting card clichés and romance novel declarations of love. But that's not love. Love is giving yourself over to what someone else wants, even if it goes against everything you believe.

Well, rationally, I know that this is my neuroses colluding with my imagination to manifest my worst fears. I know that. But I'm not rational. I'm alone in a strange city, and, uh, I never feel safe. Not for one minute. So what do I do? Where do I go? Or maybe I just surrender and accept that this is my life. That doesn't sound like much of a life. No. Not one that I want to keep on living.
The larger the therapeutic index, the safer the drug. The smaller, the more dangerous. That's how I'd see myself spending my final hours. Testing drugs.
-That's pretty specific.
Yeah, well, my dad always said why would you trust someone to do a big job if they can't do a small one?
