While there's not much of a plot besides Padme adjusting to her role as a senator, I still found this book enjoyable. This is because there aren't too many Star Wars books that focus solely on Padme or what happened to her between the time she ended her term as queen and became senator. This book also delved into her relationships with her handmaidens (particularly with Sabe) which was also kind of interesting. I liked that E.K Johnston brought up plenty of prequel references and Clone Wars references too. I thought it was especially cool that she brought in Rush Clovis (who was in a few episodes of the TV series). The cover art of this book is pretty awesome as well. The ending of this book was interesting and I wonder of there's a possible to be continued there. The only weird thing about this book was one scene between Tonra and Sabe but that can be skipped over.
In all, if you like Padme, this book is definitely for you.

As someone who went through her mid-to-late teen years with the Star Wars prequels, I freely admit that a book starring Padmé Amidala is one that I have been waiting for for over 10 years, and The Queen's Shadow absolutely did not disappoint me!

While not a particularly fast-paced, action-packed book, TQS provides some much-longed-for background on a character that, despite being monumentally important to the Skywalker clan and the overall Star Wars legacy, has long been overshadowed by the man she later married and the men who cast long shadows throughout the entire saga. Here, TQS sheds some light on a group of remarkable women of AGFFA. I enjoyed every page from beginning to end, learning more about Padmé's life before she became caught up in the drama of Anakin Skywalker, everyone's favorite walking human disaster. Here we see Padmé as her own person, and not one-half of a doomed romance, or the incubator of two of the galaxy's greatest heroes. Here, Padmé is her own person, and she does not fail to shine.
