So much new Rainbow Rowell, so little time! As someone who loves everything about the Fall season, this book was a perfect accompaniment to a PSL and a slice of pumpkin pie. Anyone who's been to the Lousiburg Cider Mill in KS, or a similar setup elsewhere, will feel right at home in this sweet ... Read More »

Charming fall read. It's sweet and wistful and funny, exactly the sort of quirky love story you can expect from Rainbow Rowell.

Rainbow Rowell has done it again! She has such a talent for creating characters and relationships. I loved the graphic novel format - it made the setting even more realistic and relatable.

This is a fun read. The main characters are relatable and realistic. I personally love that the heroine is an everyday average girl and not the one that looks like a supermodel. I must also mention that this pumpkin patch has got to be the biggest and coolest one ever! (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is. I may have to make a trip there!) The ending of the book is a bit predictable, but the adventure to get there takes many fun twists and turns. Overall this is a cute story with great artwork and an enjoyable read.

Pumpkinheads is all the best things of fall wrapped up in one glorious graphic. It perfectly captures that bittersweet moment of endings and new beginnings simultaneously. The best part of any Rainbow Rowell book is that it’s all about the relationship without being about the Relationship itself. It’s focus is on all the little things and small feelings that build a connection between characters. The illustrations are wonderful and do a great job of capturing and presenting the perfect moments of autumn.

Take a trip to the pumpkin patch. This is my favorite graphic novel. It's an adorable coming-of-age story about two best friends that work at a pumpkin patch. It's beautifully illustrated with a great color palette. Recommended for someone looking for a perfect cozy, fall read.

Pumpkinheads follows two soon-to-be college students enjoying their last Halloween at the pumpkin patch festival that they've worked together for some time. As the two get nostalgic about the end of their traditions, Deja hatches a plan to get Josiah to talk to the girl he's been crushing on for several seasons.

Pumpkinheads doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a great, easy read for people looking for a casual story with fun characters. If you're looking to get into the Halloween/autumn spirit, I'd add this to your list this season. (Then I'd follow it up with some apple cider and Over the Garden Wall—again.) Pumpkinheads is the perfect light read to kick off the season, full of heart and humor. You won't be disappointed.

This autumnal graphic novel follows two high school seniors who work at the local pumpkin patch on their last night there. The two characters are complete opposites: Deja is extroverted, action-oriented, and has many friends and acquaintances. Josiah is introverted, believes in fate, and too shy to talk to the girl he likes at the patch. Deja and Josiah bond as they make the night one to remember. Recommended for high school and up who are fans of realistic graphic novels, Autumn, and Rainbow Rowell.

Pumpkinheads is about co-workers Josie and Deja on the day of the Halloween Festival- which is the last time they’ll be seeing each other before separating paths. They have unique goals to accomplish: Deja wants to try one dish at every snack booth, and Josie wants to talk to the girl he’s had a crush on (upon seeing her at the fudge booth), which they both have to accomplish before the night is over. Only this can be accomplished by skipping their shifts and avoiding trouble from fellow co-workers and the general public. With Deja’s dashing effort and patience with hesitant yet goofy Josie, the two friends go this way and that through the pumpkins and corn mazes, recalling old memories, seeking out the “fudge girl”, and facing true love in this one-night epic tale of a hayride. I really liked this book because of the comedy and overall theme of friendship. I also liked Pumpkinheads for being a one-sitting short read, and the heavy characterization for the two main characters. Being a graphic novel, the pictures were very clear to see and it was engaging to look at the details. The characters also had pretty comical discussions with other characters, deepening Deja’s and Josie’s personalities. It was short and sweet, but I didn’t like this book because the plot wasn’t very complex, and there was only one path of events the characters could follow. Also, it was a little boring on the fact that Deja and Josie kept going back and forth, seeming to make the book drag with no progress. However, in the end, the conclusion added up to be meaningful and sweet.

I really, really liked this book, but I have mixed feelings about the main character Josiah. Basically in this book Josiah and Deja have been working at this pumpkin patch year after year and Josiah has had a MAJOR crush on "the fudge girl" for 4 years. Josiah literally doesn't even know this girls name but he is convinced that they are soul mates, and they are meant to be together! I personally found this sooo creepy, he literally doesn't even know one thing about her personality but yet he has been completely obsessed with her for 4 years! In real life, that's CRAZY, but in this make believe graphic novel it works, it just made me think twice about how creepy this character would be in real life. Anyway that aside I really did love the pumpkin patch setting in this novel. I have been ready for fall and everything about this graphic novel screams fall/ autumn. I think this novel would be perfect to read around September or October to really get you in the fall spirit. There is pretty much a pumpkin or fall yellow leaf on every single page. It was a beautifully aesthetic book to read. This book literally made me want to sit in a pile of leaves and drink a pumpkin spice latte. Basic I know, but I was here for the setting alone! I also really loved the ending. I don't want to give any spoilers away but I really liked that Josiah grew as a person and realized that his obsession with the fudge girl was just NOT FEASIBLE! I really hope that this book gets a spin off. Deja and Josiah joke about getting jobs as "Santa's Elve's" next and I really just want to read an aesthetically pleasing Christmas graphic novel! I am obsessed with all things fall and Christmas, so I just think the world needs a Christmas spin off from Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks.
