Add a CommentThis movie is about a young wannabe country singer. Jessie Buckley is absolutely outstanding as the lead. She is very real and believable as a conflicted but ambitious young woman. She's her own worst enemy sometimes, and doesn't always make great choices. The conflict that she faced, between her duties as a mom and her desire to focus on her career, was very believable. Life can be so hard, and people are not always perfect. This is a fictitious story, but the dilemma faced by Jessie's character felt very real. I understood her conflict and I definitely had compassion for someone who wasn't perfect. There aren't always neat and tidy answers and I appreciated that this film didn't try to make everything perfect, but allowed a female character to be so complex. Overall I thought it was a great film.
There was so much hype about this at BAFTA time in the UK that I thought this movie was going to be exceptional. Yes, Jessie Buckley has a good voice but I feel the same as several of the others who have reviewed this. I just couldn't get past her puerile attitude and behaviour towards her children. Julie Walters was the real standout in this movie.
Yes she is talented..yes the film was done well and a different perspective of worldly dreams...but..I am so tired of the woah is me stories and how we are supposed to feel sorry for a single mom who was irresponsible, uncontrollable, selfish, and then amazingly after an awakening we are now supposed to smile that she finally gets some of her crap together and all is well....just another false fairy tale Hollywood style...
The darling lead actress and the character she plays is vulnerable, reckless, irritating, tender, talented and believes in that one thing above all other things, that she was born to sing. And she can sing both rockabilly and ballads. She has a great mother and two confused kids but because of the grandmothering are fairly well adjusted.
It's entertaining, good soundtrack, pretty countryside and fun but hurts a little bit too, like a good country song can.
Can you really make it big singing covers?
Must See !
This is a movie that attempts to romanticize the life of a woman with a lofty ambition and two young children, who is not very intelligent and lacks any sense of responsibility. Jessie Buckley does have a great singing voice though, that is perfect for the pathos of country music. Meh.
Very pleasant surprise! Good story, acting and beautiful original country music performed by main actress as well. Feel good movie, time well spent!
Rose-Lynn is wild - with lessons to learn and dreams to pursue
feisty but irresponsible she sings her way back to home
3 great female leads, mothers all and varied
I got caught by the energy if not by the country music
The best movie I've seen this year. If you want a feel good/comfort movie for a cold, rainy night then this is for you.
