I don't really read a lot of mysteries, but the historical setting and delightful cast of characters in this (with a hint of a slow-burning future romance) won me over.

I quite enjoyed this book, I liked the characters and it was just an easy read but gives one a bit of insight on to the high society hierarchy of the Victorian times in England. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

This introductory novel into the Countess of Harleigh Mystery Series introduces a number of characters, as well as a few overlapping mysteries. The story is fairly light while the protagonist is fumbling her way through powers of deduction and the various in and outs of the criminal mind.

I really loved the American heiress heroine, but I didn't always enjoy her first person narrative. After a wonderful first half, I thought I might have chanced a new must-read series. Unfortunately, the second half lost it's momentum when I found that the protagonist was merely telling me what was going on, rather than letting me immerse myself into the story with my imagination and feelings.

Overall, I did enjoy this light and fun cozy Victorian mystery. Although the narrative dragged the story down in the second half for me, I'm still interested in trying out the next book in the series and seeing where it goes.

Dianne Freeman’s delightful book is a cozy mystery set in Edwardian England. A widowed countess, Frances Wynn, has to figure out who is stealing the ton’s jewels, make sure her younger sister doesn’t marry a fortune hunter and figure out who has accused her of murdering her husband.

Fun read for fans of Deanna Raybourn and Tasha Alexander. Lady Harleigh is coming out of mourning and ready to move on with her life, however some thefts and suspicion around her late husband's death put some bumps in her road. Throw in lots of society events and a handsome, alluring neighbor, and you have period mystery with a dash of romance.

Her first book, and first half was a little slow. But then it picked up. I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. And finally decided that I really enjoyed it. Nice little mystery that kept you guessing until the end.

If you’re looking for a well written, plot-twisting mystery with a touch of romance and humor, this book is for you. Set in Victorian England, the heroine is the American widow of an English earl. Murder, theft, and attempted murder swirl around her as she tries to establish her independence, deal with her finances, care for her daughter, and make sure her sister finds suitable match. It’s a very enjoyable read.

This is a great debut in a promising new mystery series. The writing is highly entertaining, the main characters very likeable, and the plot development and finale quite satisfying.
