I've never had so much fun reading history- as long as I have a dictionary at hand. Without one I felt like I was missing out. It like an epic prose poem- I'm hooked on Carlyle for life after this. But I warn you to have a dictionary (or better Google, some references are obscure and I have read many books on the Revolution and European history in general). If nothing, you WILL learn something about history and about literary style.
They don't make writers like this anymore.
