Put plain and simple - 1968's "Yellow Submarine" is definitely one of those movies from yesteryear that is either gonna appeal to the viewer, or else it isn't.

It certainly helps to enjoy "Yellow Submarine" if the viewer is willing to cut it some slack since it is now 52 years old. And, on top of that, I highly doubt that the scriptwriters were aiming to produce an animated masterpiece here anyway.

IMO - "Yellow Submarine" was all about promoting the Beatles and their music. And, I'd say that the novelty of this picture was (I'm sure) enough to keep the rabid fans back then satisfied and begging, screaming, and wanting more and more of the Fab Four.

I have recently encountered several people who really don't have anything at all good to say about 1968's "Yellow Submarine"..... And - Hey! - That's OK!!

But, on the contrary - I quite enjoyed this psychedelically animated musical-comedy-adventure story featuring the memorable music and the cartoon likenesses of the Fab Four (aka. The Beatles).

Hey! - So - There you go!

It would appear there were way too many drugs involved.

It goes without saying that The Beatles were clearly brilliant and ahead of their time, by capturing the love and attention of essentially the entire world- nobody can doubt their sheer charm and musical talent. However, Yellow Submarine still remains a movie that I'm undecided on. Some may enjoy the (rather choppy) animation style and somewhat pretentious plotline, but it's really not for me. Though I enjoyed bits of the film, for the most part, it seems all-too dated and deserves to be left in the '60s, where it was intended for. Despite the unpleasant feelings I received from watching through Yellow Submarine, some of its album tracks were quite good: like the animation for the song "When I'm 64," or even the involvement of the song "Nowhere Man" from their previous album: "Rubber Soul." Even recounting back on the movie, it seems like more of a haze: where certain scenes are just forgotten about and I really can only speak on behalf of its general consensus because of the psychedelic feel the movie had inherited. I would still recommend watching through a bit of Yellow Submarine, however, as it has a real reputation for being a project in which people are very passionate about and either love or hate. If you're already deep into The Beatles and their music, then this film is for you, but if not- you probably won't enjoy it. 2/5. @showmethemonet! of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

1st off: i really love the Beatles, so i have a built in bias in favor...the animation and story were rather childish and the boys themselves don't even voice their own characters...by every rite i should hate this film...but like i said before, i just love the Beatles

How many animated modern pop musicals depicting artists at the top of their game were every made? Well this one was when the Beatles were still riding high. Funny to think most forget there was also an animated Beatles tv show. This movie is almost like an extend video of the best late 1960's hits by the band and yes it is cheesy but so was most of the movies made at the time. A great bit of nostalgia and pop history.

When I got back from 'Nam I was spit on,beaten by Americans, and driven out of town as they called me Baby Killer and worse. I still carry 1/2 lb of shrapnel in my spine which the medics couldn't get out without killing me. I was at the lowest point in my life when I was let into a movie house in Lubbock where Yellow Submarine was playing. I was brought to tears and then laughter and was amazed all at once. This movie changed my life that I had considered ending. It gave me hope at a hopeless time in this country. To the haters of this movie I feel pity. The animation in this movie changed advertising, the art world, and seeped into our culture in so many, many ways you wouldn't believe. It saved my life and others who were at the end of their ropes and gave them hope as it did for me. I give this movie five stars.

I wanted to rate it five stars, to spite the haters (likely latter day blue meanies). the song I l-o-o-v-e is ONLY A NORTHERN SONG. this album is when Dark Horse began pulling even with Winston o'boogie and particularlysmashingness. ITS ALL TOO MUCH does for feedback what Hendrix did for the wah-wah pedal. YELLOW SUBMARINE, the song, is a true children's song. Don't see how any adult could really really like it without having heard it too many times already. I don't dig cartoons, since I got old, so the animation of it all will go comment-less. HEY BULLDOG was in the movie but didn't make the cd. it contains one of my all-time favorite guitar solos, plus, one of my all-time favorite bass riffs--throughout the song.

Pure, unadulterated pretension. If you're already heavily into psychedelia and Beatlemania, then you already love this movie, but if you prefer not to watch things that look and sound like a schizophrenic nightmare coupled with an overbearing tribute to John Lennon's hyper-inflated ego, then don't bother with it. I suppose if I'd grown up doing tons of acid and shrooms, I'd feel differently, but it's too late for that now.
