Having recently returned from a trip to Africa which included a visit to the Karen Blixen House & Museum in Kenya, as well as a safari exploring the Serengeti and wilds of Tanzania I decided to indulge myself and relive my memories by watching OUT OF AFRICA, a film I had seen in the theater more than 30 years ago. I was gratified to find this modern classic has nobly withstood the test of time with brilliant performances and command by a cast and director at the pinnacle of their respective careers. A tad long, this romance-adventure story, inspired by real people and events, fascinated me, but it was the awe-inspiring images of the vast African landscapes and the haunting Oscar-winning original musical score that remained with me long after the final credits had rolled.

Are you ready to fall in love with Africa? You probably will while watching “Out of Africa”. Kenya. The beauty of the country that is shown from the insight of Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) is going to overwhelm you. There will be much to ponder about - freedom vs. obligation, marriage of convenience vs. love, life vs. loss, fate of a woman, and fragility of the nature. Top it off with the art of storytelling and the power of a well-told story. Extraordinary work of the film director (Sydney Pollack) and his crew. You’ll be haunted by this story long after you’re done watching and are ‘out of Africa’.
