Opinion

From Library Staff

This one is a real tear jerker.

When Robin Williams dies, he finds himself within his wife's paintings, and the paint is still wet. The landscapes of many of my dreams are in wet paint, so I was blown away by this. I really love the idea that the afterlife may be exactly what each of us imagines it to be. And I also really... Read More »

💣 My gosh, jazzy4u, it's just a story. You should really just relax. I mean, I agree it's an awful movie, but nobody's going to watch it and go all Satanic on us.

Sacrilegious, and blasphemous. Filthy cursing, even in 'heaven' William,s uses God's name to curse, as do other's. Hollywood depicts heaven with people wearing heels, trench coats, jewelry, make-up, leather and tennis outfits. There's not one mention of "Where's God, when can I see Him"? There's only 'confusion', the F & B-word, anger, rage, arguing, blaming etc. God said those in heaven will all wear Linen robes, there will be no gender's, and yes, that means everyone will have shed their 'character's' on earth and no longer be 'husband and wife or aunt or granny'. We will all return to being children of God. God said He made the chasm between the dead and those living on earth so great that neither is able to reach the other side, so yes, that means the 'spirit' of your dearly departed is NOT who you pretend it is. Hollywood has Williams making his own decision to leave heaven so he can get his 'family' out of hell and bring them into heaven - putting himself above God. Evil, Satanic, Hollywood. I wonder if Robin Williams was surprised to see where he eventually ended up.

Beautiful art, visuals, and special effects. The story is sad and romantic. For someone who isn’t religious/spiritual though, it can sometimes come off as ridiculous. The concepts of Heaven and Hell are combined with reincarnation.

Some of the most beautiful cinematography ever, but the plot is too predictable. Robin Williams gives a fine performance in a sad love story.

Sad and haunting. A departure from Robin Williams as we know him.

Directed by Vincent Ward, this is a 1998 American fantasy based on the 1978 novel of the same name by Richard Matheson.
Although the visual effects appear fabulous, the script seems ill-contrived for a nomal person to understand.
After all, it is like a children's book romance with only an entertaining value.
I can hardly take it seriously.

Just alittle slow moving for me...Visual effects were amazing though.

I can see why this movie won an Academy Award for its visual effects. They're beautiful, stunning, and imaginative. I like the scene where Robin Williams' character Chris is walking through a field of flowers; it's like he stepped into an Impressionist painting.

Annie Nielsen: Can I sit here?
Chris Nielsen: Actually, no. Two years ago, I reserved this specific area.
Annie Nielsen: What if I say please ?
Chris Nielsen: That's the one exception.

Albert: So what is the "me"?
Chris Nielsen: My brain I suppose.
Albert: Your brain ? Your brain is a body part. Like your fingernail or your heart. Why is that the part that's you?
Chris Nielsen: Because I have sort of a voice in my head, the part of me that thinks, that feels, that is aware that I exist at all.
Albert: So if you're aware you exist, then you do. That's why you're still here.
