This fantastically-twisted fairy tale is chock-full of curious characters and special effects. A sad and heartbroken madman, Krank, is aging prematurely because he can't dream. He kidnaps little children, hoping that eventually he will find a way to steal their sleeping thoughts. The story takes the form of a quest, as a sentimental harpooner-turned-fairground strongman, One, sets out to find his young brother on dilapidated oil rig. He soon falls in love with the gutsy nine-year old girl (who is head of the orphan gang), and together they run a gauntlet of fantastical dangers as they join hearts and hands to save a small boy's dreams from the madman's master plan.

Step into the nightmare/fantasy world of this truly bizarre, freaky and phenomenally weird tale that comes at you straight from hell._____ Very quirky and curious, The City Of Lost Children (TCOLC) is definitely something of an original (which is hard to believe is even possible in this "been there/seen that" age of filmdom that we all live in these days)._____ This undoubtedly strange and, yes, unsettling, little tale is sure to leave quite a lasting impression on the viewer long after the closing credits have rolled on by._____ Directed with a truly astonishing visual flair, TCOLC puts a rather unique, new twist (that's very dark and surreal) on the familiar "Mad Scientist" theme._____ You can be sure that this is one far-out fairy tale that you'll never, ever see coming to you from the likes of Disney Studios._____ TCOLC's one drawback is that its story has a tendency to be quite uneven at times. But, hey, that aside, it is still well-worth a view.

Amazing sci-fi/ french surrealist/ just plain weird film. One of my favorites of all time. (and it has the guy who played Hellboy as a good natured but dim witted carnival strong man, how can you go wrong with that?)

Magical, nightmarish, glauque, grotesque, absurd, beautiful with a strike of genius.

OK movie. I wouldn't watch it again though. Good CG. Weird story and characters.

If you like Gotham city settings with cute kids captured by moral defects, then this fable is fabulous. Scary for kids but well resolved, this is a good film available in French or English.

This is a lovely, surreal film. The colours and atmosphere are fantastic.
