Add a Comment1977's "Pete's Dragon" is clearly a moldie-oldie from Disney Studios that is only suitable for an audience of very-very-very young children. I don't think this one would even entertain a 10-year-old.
This pre-CGI production's animated dragon "Elliot" has got to be one of the most clueless and annoying characters in a fantasy film that I've seen in a long-long time.
With a running time of 129 minutes - This picture really pushed the limits when it came to testing my endurance for sitting through it without fast-forwarding about every 5 minutes.
All-in-all - This was a totally forgettable picture that I think actually had the potential to be a lot of fun. But, it failed to deliver.
When it comes to being considered "agreeable" entertainment for children - 1977's "Pete's Dragon" made its first big mistake (and definitely not its last) by having an almost unendurable running time of 129 minutes.... Sheesh!
Another real problem here was the animated (and clearly mentally-challenged) dragon named Elliot. I mean, he was such a babbling, incoherent, and clueless doofus that I found myself looking forward to the times when he wasn't on screen.
Anyway - From an adult's perspective - "Pete's Dragon" had very little charm or appeal to it. This badly-staged Disney production had "Made-For-TV-Movie" written all over it.
Yep. I should've known better than to have watched this silly nonsense.
Though it has some nice moments, and Elliot the Dragon is rather fantastic, the movie as a whole has not aged well and is generally inferior compared to Mary Poppins.
A fun musical that mixes animation with live-action to produce a classic tale of friendship, family, and mischief. A colorful cast of characters--including a boy, a dragon, a lighthouse-keeper and her sometimes-inebriated father, pair of shady traveling salesmen, a filthy family on a mission to reclaim their "property," a sailor lost at sea--bring the story and songs to charming life. On a personal note, I just love how Eliot speaks!
Purely a youngster's movie. Concept of selling a kid could be used to keep a naughty kid in line. Early application of anime mixed with real actors. Happy feel good movie - perfect for a young family.
The original is always the BEST and that goes for 1976 version of Pete's Dragon starring Helen Reddy & Mickey Rooney.
Such a great movie for young children. I remember it from when I was a child I loved it so much. I just hope the new one can measure up
i think it's a cute movie i really liked it i remember i use to barrow pete's dragon from your libarary but that was in 2012 i hope a lot of little kids like this movie. cause it is a really good movie .
This was a cute story about friendship.
