What a great introduction to a truly intriguing and nefarious character - Artemis Fowl. With just the right amount of fantastic mixed with adventure, I really enjoyed this book. I'm sure the rest of the series is a treat, too.
When a twelve-year-old evil genius tries to restore his family fortune by capturing a fairy and demanding a ransom in gold, the fairies fight back with magic, technology, and a particularly nasty troll.

I'm somewhat of a sucker for series. I get involved with the characters of the first book, and I find that I NEED to know what happens to them later. This book is not an exception. I particularly enjoyed this book for both the creative interweaving of traditional fairy lore with high-tech fantasy elements and the wide variety of characters.
