SUMMARY: As special advisor on counter-terrorism to CIA director Dr. Irene Kennedy, Mitch Rapp is ready to fight the war on terrorism from CIA headquarters rather than the front line. That is, until a platoon of Navy SEALS, sent to the Philippines to save an American family kidnapped by radical Islamic terrorists, is caught in a deadly ambush. The mission had been top secret - so who told the enemy? All evidence points to the State Department and the Philippine embassy. But a greater threat still lurks. An unknown assassin working closely with the highest powers in the Middle East is bent on igniting war. Now, with the world watching his every move, will Rapp be able to overcome this anonymous foe and once again keep the flames of war from raging? (Bestseller)

Executive Power is a return to form after Separation of Power which dealt with Mitch Rapp’s personal life. Rapp’s marriage and related problems do come to the fore but only for a limited time. In fact, reading about Rapp getting a dressing down from his wife is one of the novel’s funnier moments. However, the main focus of the novel is on two separate terror events: one a botched hostage rescue in the Philippines and the other a plot to force a Palestinian state through unorthodox terror methods. The latter shows a more nuanced understanding of Middle East problems than Flynn’s usual good guy-bad guy approach. Overall it was hard to put down.

If you like Vince Flynn, you'll like this book about the continuing adventures of Mitch Rapp, CIA agent. I agree with Razor that this is one of the better books this Minneapolis author has written. It is more balanced that his usual right-wing take on the political scene. But hey, let's face it -- it's pure escapism enjoyment.

Another great Vince Flynn novel; one of the best I've read (so far). A powerful story with a great plot that puts Mitch Rapp into the thick of the action. Flynn's novel brings the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the forefront, a conflict that continues to bedevil the Middle East ? and the rest of the world ? to this day! Highly recommend this book.
