The tagline is "The True Story That Shocked the Nation," but I doubt too many people would remember Stephen Glass if it weren't for this movie. He was the young "New Republic" reporter who fabricated a bunch of stories and sources and was found out and humiliated. Hayden Christensen, doomed to always be known as Anakin Shkywalker, is Glass and is good here, probably because the character is callow and vain. Peter Sarsgard, in the film's best performance, is the editor who finds out, and the fine supporting cast includes Chloe Sevigny, Steve Zahn, Rosario Dawson (She and Sevigny were in "Kids" together!), and Hank Azaria. There's no real attempt to explain why Glass did it, other than that he wanted to get ahead. He ended up as a lawyer, so I guess he did OK. Jerk.

"Peter Sarsgaard plays that boss whose motivation is left a mystery..."

Are you serious?? Does the word "integrity" mean anything to you?

Good – Shattered Glass (2003) 94 min. How did this little gem pass my fingers at the video store? Hayden Christensen was brilliant in this true story of Stephen Glass, a journalist for the New Republic Magazine in the mid-1990s. Christensen plays the journalist to perfection with all the angst expected from one who’s being interrogated by his boss for the stories he’s published. Peter Sarsgaard plays that boss whose motivation is left a mystery allowing the viewer to question everything on screen. Well worth film experience.
