Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee work to investigate another mystery on the Navajo reservation. At first, the trading post robbery seems cut and dried - but just at first. As they look into it, they see that it's far more complex, involving stolen diamonds, a 50-year-old airplane crash, and a gang of crooks on the trail of those lost gems.

The basis for this book is a true story: In 1956 two commercial airliners collided and crashed into the Grand Canyon. There were no survivors. 128 perished. "Skeleton Man" is set in the present time, but the plot plays heavy to the 1956 crash, and in particular the contents one of the male passenger's small briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. Even though the book's plot scenario right up to the ending is telegraphed early on, and the characters are a little undeveloped and stale, this is still an enjoyable story to listen to on a rainy day. Especially for those who share enthusiasm for the American South-west desert country. 6 audio CDs, well and clearly performed. Recommended.
