Having just visited the Grand Canyon this was an excellent background which helped me to appreciate the magnificence of this wonder of the world. Even without a background in geology the book is fascinating and written for the general reader. It would have been more valuable to read before my trip. There is lots of info at the Grand Canyon itself but I had not appreciated the controversy behind the exploration until I read this book.
