The Book isn't bad. In fact, it is very well written. Drew Karpshyn manages to create a very vivid story with plot twists and some cliche moments. It is particularly interesting seeing Bane's emotions during the course of this novel. His awful upbringing sets the stage for everything else to come. (There are also No bad words in this book which is AWESOME!) However, it gets graphic and gory in some parts, especially when Bane kills a fellow Sith apprentice or person, (such as the children and their father). Its gets even worse when Bane gets so lost and caught up in his quest for power that he cannot see what he destroys and creates. The plot gets even more depressing when he meets his young to be apprentice Rain, who just like Bane, can't learn to forgive and does the only thing she knows how to do in a difficult situation. Kill others. From this tragic story, it is clear to see that Bane really does go down a path of destruction.

It was hard to understand a villain, but Karpyshyn defines his character brilliantly. Must read for star wars fans. The second and third are outstanding as well.

A good book, it explains a lot about the Rule of Two. After reading it, I couldn't wait to read the 2nd one!

I was worried about how I could become invested in a book where the main character is a "bad guy". However, Drew Karpyshyn pulled it off, and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to Star Wars. Drew was the lead writer for the incredible Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect video games, and while the story isn't quite as epic as the previously stated titles, that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially considering that there are two more books in this series. Overall, highly recommended for any Star Wars fan.
