Add a SummaryThe book American Born Chinese is a great book to ready.It has a 3 different stories that all go into one plot.Its very funny,entertaining,and interesting to read.The plot seemed to be confusing but the book has a great way of wrapping all together in one piece.This book relates to many teenagers lives and how they think and how certain people in the world.
I would rate this book a 9 out of 10 this book is really good for any type of audience.It has a funny appeal to it.It relates to a certain crowd of people and even has a little high school humor in it.What i didn’t like about the book was the length i wanted to keep reading,and reading because this really is a very fun book to read.It gives a good lesson also to the people who look a little deep into the book you’ll have to find that lesson by checking it out yourself though.
I recommend this book to everyone out there who loves a good book.This book really does appeal to everyones taste in many ways. If you can try and change this book out whenever you can.
This book sums up three different tales together then combines them in one. All of these different tales have problems with either their friends, their race and their faith. With the Monkey King and the rest. Some change characters and speak of legends that tell there faith and they finally find their reall person and become one.
This is a very touching, and funny comic book. It was actually three stories that were being told. One story was about a Chinese boy who moved to a new home which meant that he had to start a new school and make new friends. But that wasn't so easy fro Jin. Since there were barely any Chinese kids at his new school, people made fun of Jin and not a lot of kids wanted to be his friend. Until two months later when an exchanged student from China came to his class. Jin and Wei-Cheng Sun became best friends. But Jin had to make a choice and that was to either change himself for an american girl that he liked or stay the way he is in order to keep being friends with Wei-Cheng Sun. Another story that was being told was about a boy named Danny. He was a very popular kid. But he had a problem. He is related to a Chinese boy named Chin-Kee who happened to be his cousin.Chin-Kee would always come every year to visit for 2 weeks. During those 2 weeks, he would have to go to school with Danny. Danny would be so embarrassed. Another story was of a Monkey Kinf who has lived thousands of years and mastered the arts of kung fu and the heavenly disciplines. But when he attends the party of the immortal god in heaven they told him that there was no space for him. Poor Monkey King.
I really enjoyed this book. It was about a boy, Lin struggling to come to terms with his Chinese heritage while growing up as an American teenager. He endures several stereotypes along the way and often feels tossed between the two worlds, ultimately realizing that he needs not reject either of the two.

Add a CommentAmerican Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang is a graphic novel. The graphic novel follows the story of Jin Wang. He is a young Chinese American boy. His family moves to a new place with a new school. Jin notices that he's the only Chinese American in his class. Everyone including his teacher thinks he's from China from his look but really he is American. Jin's classmates bullies him. He has one friend that's from Taiwan. Jin has a crush on an American girl.
On the other hand, Chin-Kee is the ultimate negative Chinese stereotype, and he's ruining his cousin Danny's life. Danny's a popular kid at school, but every year Chin-Kee comes to visit, and every year Danny has to transfer to a new school to escape the shame.
The Monkey King is the ruler of all monkeys. He is the master of kung-fu. He wants to be hailed as a god but all the gods won't take him seriously because he is a monkey.
I really love this book so much. It's one of the best graphic novel I've read. I love how the end the three stories some how will come together. I also love the plot twists that seem to come out of nowhere. Overall, I 100% recommend this book. -April, Grade 7
This beautiful graphic novel tells three stories that resonate with anyone who has felt like an outsider. I was able to relate the main characters in their struggle to accept themselves and their internalized feelings inadequacy. Also, I really liked the art in this book. I recommend this book to teenagers who are struggling to fit in, whether they are Chinese or different in any other way. :)

A brief summary of this story is about a kid that his family was Chinese but his family is American. He feels left out in school he gets bullied in school but he doesn't care he all ways tris hard in school. He finds a friend that he is Japanese,they have a lot in common. he goes thru struggles in his life .i read a book similar called “The Diary Of A Wimpy Kid” the main character also struggles in his life thru the story. I recommend both books because they are both funny.i recommend these book for anybody.

My book is american born chinese in this book you going to read about a different things about jing wang and how he starting at a new school and is the only chinese boy and he has this crush on this girl that he's dying for and he's unsure about messing with her sooner or later his cousin wei-chei comes every year and jin wang is annoyed by him and feels as if the girls he's dreaming for inst going to like him back because of his cousin but little does he know wei-chie is someone secretly watching him because jin wang is the chosen one from the monkey lords decipher.
My thoughts on the book is that it's a really good book if you put you mind to it and really take the time to read it. It's a cool humorous comic book that had a lot of good parts the author did a good job on making it good and i plan i reading more in the series of book this author makes .
I recommend this book to someone that has a good sense of humor and like comics. If you got a adventurous mind and like to find out why is something like how it is . while reading you will have a lot of questions you want to find out about the book
As Jin, the Monkey King, and Danny share their journey and experiences with readers in three different stories, readers find themselves entwined between three different lives, each with a similar problem, resolving them in an almost similar way. With the Monkey King, it’s the story of power, recognition, and sacrifice. As the Monkey king changes his ways from learning from his mistakes, he becomes an example of sacrifice, of how a true leader, saviour, helper, and hero should be like. As for Jin, Wang is a third-grader when he moves to Mayflower Elementary School from his home in San Francisco. Struggling to fit in and make friends, he finds himself in a life he doesn’t really like. When he meets Wei-Chen, a boy who moved to the same school from Taiwan only two months after Jin Wang did, Jin finds his true self with his friendship to Wei-Chen. For Danny, an American-boy, it’s his cousin that truly embarrasses him. With all three stories filled with love, hatred, sacrifice, revenge, and finding ones true form, Yang truly does show the world through new lenses.
